Krisztián was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at the age of seven and a half. I could already see that something was wrong when I was 5. He couldn't walk up stairs, squat down, climb, and could barely walk a few meters on his own.
I took him to the local doctor, but they said he had clubfoot and a muscle strain! They took two years off our lives.
Then I got bored and said: send me to Budapest. He wrote me a referral and I took him to the Heimpál Hospital immediately.
There we got the result! A world crumbled inside me. I have been raising him alone since he was born because his father abandoned us. Sadly he is no longer alive! Krisztián is a modest but well-balanced child, full of life, always smiling. Three years ago he underwent a 9-hour spinal surgery, 36 screws holding his spine in place. Thank God everything went well. He had a 95 degree spinal deformity.
He's suppressed his lungs, his stomach, and if I hadn't taken the surgery, he wouldn't be with me. We live in a sublet, in modest circumstances. I am on Gyod with him because he needs 24 hour care! We go a lot to the children's hospice in Buda. He sleeps with a ventilator, sometimes I have to put him on it during the day. He also has a cough machine because he can't cough. We would be grateful if you could help us to give him a little better life...thank you very much.
