Marcell Sz. and his family

Marci was born on 17 January 2017, in the 27th week of pregnancy, by emergency caesarean section due to placental abruption. At birth, he suffered a severe bilateral cerebral haemorrhage and subsequently required the insertion of several shunts. As a result of his premature birth, he developed visual impairment due to ROP; he also suffers from cerebral palsy, tetraparesis and epilepsy.

Marci cannot yet walk unaided, but thanks to ongoing rehabilitation, he has made tremendous progress: he can pull himself up to a standing position, take a few steps whilst being guided, and is using his wheelchair with increasing independence. He can already communicate using a few words, answers questions, and, thanks to feeding therapy, is becoming increasingly adept at eating.

For Marci, ongoing intensive therapy, swimming and developmental activities are essential. Our aim is to help him become increasingly independent by making the most of his potential. Every small step is a huge achievement for him and for his whole family.
