Anna was born as her family’s first child following an uncomplicated pregnancy. In the 42nd week of pregnancy, her heart rate suddenly showed signs of a problem, so an emergency caesarean section was required. It later transpired that she had not been receiving enough oxygen due to an abnormality in the umbilical cord.
After being resuscitated several times, Anna’s condition was stabilised, and she was then airlifted by rescue helicopter to Târgu Mureș, where she underwent therapeutic hypothermia. However, she suffered severe brain damage as a result of the lack of oxygen. She was able to return home after two months’ hospital treatment.
Anna is currently one and a half years old. Her motor development is severely delayed; she is cortically blind and suffers from epileptic seizures. Recently, she has also begun to experience more severe seizures, which are further hindering her development. Due to her limited mobility, she is also developing scoliosis.
Anna used to attend therapy sessions regularly, but due to her frequent seizures, these have been put on hold for the time being until her condition can be stabilised. Her family’s greatest hope is that they will find the right treatment for her epilepsy, so that Anna can resume her therapy sessions.
Despite all this, Anna is a loving, cheerful and incredibly resilient little girl who shows every day just how much strength she has within her.
