Erik Tibor H. was a 5.5-year-old, lively, healthy boy until he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in October 2024. On that day, he underwent bone marrow sampling under anaesthesia and two units of blood were drawn for low haemoglobin.

He spent the first ten days in intensive care and then 21 days in an isolation room. Treatments started in October; his genetic results showed a favourable classification, so that „only” five chemotherapy blocks are required according to the prescribed protocol. The treatments have serious side effects and Tibike's body is fighting hard every day.
His mother and father take turns to stay with him in hospital, while a 4-year-old daughter waits for them at home. As they have no other way of looking after her, they can only spend a few days a month at home.

After five months in hospital, he is now on a year of maintenance treatment, which involves four intravenous chemotherapy sessions a month, plus a number of drugs and chemotherapy tablets. Tibike can't eat or drink just anything, she needs a strict diet.

In September 2024, he was only allowed to attend nursery school for two weeks, and will have to miss the whole school year - and probably the next one too. So he will be straight from hospital bed to school desk. Her mother spends every moment at home teaching her, developing her, practising together - because Tibike wants to learn and live.
