Wencel is a cheerful, always smiling little 1.5-year-old guy, about whom no one in the world would tell that he has any health problems.
Unfortunately, this is only an appearance for now.
Wencel was born with a severe complex heart defect, transposition of the great arteries, that was not discovered during pregnancy. The parents expected a completely healthy baby, as his condition in the womb showed no signs of any problems.
A few hours after giving birth, she was transported to Debrecen, and I was able to inquire about her by phone. I clearly remember those few shocking sentences on the phone, and my first gut reaction, which was that I repeated my little son's name to the doctor and asked him to provide information about him, because he would definitely confuse her with someone else. He told me in a kind voice that he was indeed telling me about this baby. It was a terrible feeling, I felt like I was falling. Later, of course, as my husband and I learned more, we calmed down somewhat, because we received information on all fronts that this heart defect is extremely operable, and that little patients can live a full life after about 3 weeks of recovery.
For us, the scenario turned out differently.
The 11-day open-heart surgery was extremely complicated and lengthy, the medical prognosis was not encouraging, and it seemed that Wencel could not be saved.
Vencus thought differently. He fought and won 😊 and has been gifting his parents with his beautiful smile every day ever since.
He has undergone many surgeries, the most significant of which are three open-heart surgeries, and is currently expecting a fourth. All three heart surgeries were life-saving surgeries, and what they are currently waiting for is a planned surgery, the success of which they have full confidence and faith in. Vencel is currently still in a state of heart failure, and with good hope this surgery can bring a breakthrough in this, and finally the doctors can declare that the little warrior has embarked on the path of recovery.
After a long 10-month stay in the hospital, he was barely able to turn over when we arrived home at the end of December last year, at the age of almost one. Since then, thanks to active gymnastics, improvements, and his two motivating older brothers, he has made significant progress.
For now, he needs ventilation to sleep and is fed through a tube. His parents are confident that they will be able to wean him off these medications in time.
Our heart's desire is to find a therapeutic option that will help him with this.
As parents, we feel it is our job to give him every opportunity and take advantage of it so that he can live a long, full and happy life.
The past period has been both emotionally and financially stressful for the family. The father visited them in the hospital every week and was with them throughout the most critical periods.
Let's help Vencel and his family together to create a happy and secure future for the boys!
